"these vagabond shoes are longing to stray, right through the very heart of it...New York, New York" -Frank Sinatra

Austin's 14 year old sister, Jennica, came to visit us for a week and a half! It was so, so, so much fun! I love that girl! She is a riot! She is the cutest, funniest, most lovable girl I know! We took NYC by storm while she was here! There was at least one time while I was with her that I laughed until I cried--I can always depend on her and Austin to do that to me! Here are some of the highlights from her visit:
The Little Mermaid on broadway! I LOVED IT! It is absolutely fabulous and amazing! I seriously got teary eyed during the play because it was just so good! I remember watching the movie with my sister over and over again as kids because it was her favorite disney movie. So I knew all of the songs by heart (what girl doesn't?) and the costumes and props were incredible--so creative and fun! The show was flawless--the actors were definitely some of the best I have seen on broadway this summer. I have seen A LOT of broadway plays in my lifetime and the Little Mermaid is absolutely one of my favorites so far. I haven't seen Wicked yet but I am going to see it tomorrow so I will let you know how it compares to the wonderful Little Mermaid!

We shopped on Canal street and then we ate at the Olive Garden in Times square because Jennica had never been to Olive Garden and wanted to try it! It was yummy and we sat 3 stories up by a big window overlooking the city!

One day we went to the summer film festival at Bryant Park. Every monday night an old black and white movie is played on a big screen in the park. Have you ever seen the movie the Wedding Planner? Well, it is like when the planner and the dr. go on a "date" to watch the old movie on the side of the museum. It is so cool. Before heading to the park we stopped and got some candy (at $14 a pound it was delicious) and we went to Pinkberry.

When we got to Bryant Park 4 hours before the start of the movie it was already full of people camping out with their blankets, towels, sheets, picnics, umbrellas to shield the sun, their wine, their laptops, etc.- all waiting for the film to start. We got a really good spot though and for the next four hours we laid on our blanket while eating junk food, chatting, and reading our books.

Before the movie started they showed a bugs bunny cartoon and everyone in the park got up and danced during the whole thing--it was crazy! We then got to enjoy the movie "Fail-safe" under the stars! I wish there were "movies in the park" nights like this somewhere close to my house in Utah--it is so much better than going to a theatre--especially since you can bring whatever food you want and it's FREE! The original Superman movie is playing in a couple of weeks and I am so excited!

We visited the site of ground zero and the World Trade Center gallery. While we were down there I took her to Century 21 which is one of New York's best kept secrets...it's basically a bigger and better Nordstrom Rack. She found $40 Juicy Couture jeans! Lucky girl! They look adorable on her!

We walked down wall street and saw the famous "bull". It took us about 15 minutes just to get a picture in front of this thing because it was so crowded-and people were fighting over who got to take a photo in front of it next.

We walked around Battery Park and went down to the pier to see the statue of liberty.

Jen even got to see some street performers while we were walking in the park. (I'm pretty sure it was the exact same routine I saw some street performers do about 5 years ago in NYC):
We had a blast eating lunch at Ellen's Stardust diner! It was so much fun singing along to the songs we knew:

We had delicious cheesecake from the famous Carnegie Deli:

We had dinner at Cozy's (one of my east coast favorites):

We made delicious crepes on sunday morning! Vanilla crepes with fresh fruit and whipped cream (or ice cream) is the best breakfast ever (Austin would say 2nd to his "icecream sunday waffles"...)!

We like to make our crepes into smiley faces...

Don't forget the girlie time--watching movies while snuggled on the hide-a-bed:

We also spend lots of time just walking around Manhattan-- enjoying Times Square and doing lots of shopping of course!

I had such a lovely time with you, Jennica and I love you dearly! I wish you could come keep me company for the rest of the summer--there is still so much of this beautiful city I want to show you! Thank you for taking time out of your busy summer to visit me and Austin! We are so lucky to have you as a little sister! Much love, xoxox

I can't believe Jennica is 14! She is gorgeous! It looks like you guys had a great time together. My favorite is the movie in the park! I love the wedding planner and agree they should have more places in UT that do that...there are a few, but I think the one in Ogden is consumed by teenagers most the time...hmm. Ah the bull, that reminds me of Hitch...fabulous!

It's true most of the places in Utah that do movies in the park have way too many loud teens for my liking. Sounds like her trip out was jam packed with fun things. I love all the things there are to do on the East Coast - so much historical stuff too - you can never run out of things to do! Jealous.
