"Never fear, Brooklyn is here!"
Did any of you watch the Newsies while growing up? Well it was one of mine and my sisters favorites--and honestly, I still love it! We had the music and would sing while my mom played the piano, we would watch the movie over and over again pausing it on certain parts so we could kiss the t.v. screen (I can't believe we actually did that) and we learned a bunch of the dances and would sing and dance along while watching. Ah, the good ole' days! =) Austin and I watched it a few weeks ago and I'm sorry to report that we didn't dance around our apartment but I'm sure our neighbors were kept awake by us singing along (loudly) during the songs. I bring this up because we spent the day in Brooklyn and I when I read "welcome to Brooklyn" on this patch of cement I couldn't help but think the phrase "Never fear, Brooklyn is here!"
This afternoon we tried out Red Mango. There is one in Provo and I think there is one in SLC now too but we had never tried it so we thought we would give it a go instead of going to Pinkberry like we always do. Sadly, I was pretty disappointed--Austin liked it a lot but to me the frozen yogurt tasted too much like yogurt so it was like eating breakfast instead of a dessert (does that make sense?). We all know I am a food "priss" but I think I will be sticking to Pinkberry from now on! On our way to Red Mango we stopped at the local swap meet and got some more of that yummy roasted corn! We also got chocolate covered strawberries and carmel covered apples (the carmel was delish!). After consuming all our treats we walked across the Brooklyn bridge.

Walking, running, or biking across the bridge is a very popular thing to do apparently because the bridge was crowded even in the rain! Even though NYC doesn't have the beauty of nature and animals (except dogs on leashes) walking across the bridge is just as awe inspiring as hiking in the mountains but for very different reasons- not only is the bridge itself beautiful but from the bridge you can see downtown and midtown Manhattan with views of the Manhattan bridge, the Statute of Liberty and the Empire State building (this must be why it's such a popular spot)!

We also ate at Grimaldi's pizzeria located underneath the Brooklyn bridge. We had to wait in line in the pouring rain for about 45 minutes to get seated- but we knew it was good pizza because most people in line didn't have an umbrella but that didn't stop them from getting a slice. After finally getting in we had to wait about another 45 minutes to get our pizza---but we were not let down! It was the BEST pizza I have EVER had! Yes, NYC has fabulous pizza wherever you go--But this pizza was unbelievable. It was brick oven thin crust so it was crispy with a distinct smokey taste to it. The mozzerella cheese was thick and gooey and there was just the right amount of sauce and toppings. After we ate a large pie we immediately wanted to order another one but we couldn't bring ourselves to wait another 45 minutes for more pizza. I will definitely be going back again before we leave. I wish I could bring a slice back for everyone because it blows away anything found in Utah.

This weekend we also spent some time with Austin's sweet brother Jordan. Even though he lives 4 floors down from me I hardly ever see him! It was so good to catch up with everything that is going on in his life--he and Austin are complete opposites in a lot of things but they are best friends and I am so glad to have Jordan as a brother. He has such a cool outlook on life--I could talk to him for hours (he'd probably get sick of all my questions and prodding long before then however!). =)

I was always wondering what Jordan was up to since he was there with you but never in the pictures - glad to hear he is doing well. And Newsies is a fave for me - the guy with the eye patch (his name escapes me right now) taught at a dance convention I was at once and I loved him.
Layla.. my sister and I still dance and sing to Newsies.. When you guys coming back to Utah?
OK, you are right! I checked my facts and they do deny it- but there is sure a lot of talk that that is how they did it :)
We have so much fun out here!!! What are we going to do when we go back to Utah??? NYC is so much better!
You guys have WAY TO MUCH FUN!!! Yes, we are extending :-(. I think we will be home for the year end party!!! Can't wait to get home!!! ( I am trying to talk my husband into letting me go home early, we will see if that happens)
Love the pictures! The one of the statue of liberty with the fingers and then you with your soda where my favorites. You are such a cute person. I am glad that you guys are having fun out here!
I LOVE Newsies too. I was seriously my favorite show growing up!! Haha and you have to love the crazy stuff you did with your sisters, we did the same stuff. If you ever see it on DVD let me know cuz I really want to buy it!! I only have it on VHS and we don't have a player for it!! I am seriously jealous of all the stuff you guys do!! Missouri is not half as much fun as NYC
I love Grimaldi's! We went there with Sheena and Jason. It is a fun place! It looks like you guys are having fun in NY. I hope that we can make it back there soon!
Can I just say Newsies is one of my favs!!! I am bringing my little bro out to NY this weekend and I can't wait for him to see the city!!! I will need to call you for advice on things to do besides the usual stuff or maybe if you are bored you could come hangout and show us around : ) It would be fun to see you and get the tour from someone who is obviously living it up!
