"New York City, You're So Pretty"

We have been in NYC over a month and I have yet to post about it...I guess we are just having too much fun and are too incredibly busy for me to take time to post about all of the things we do. Austin works long, long days. He never stops. He is my own personal energizer bunny. He starts working at 8 in the morning (somedays the calls/texts come in much earlier) and doesn't quit till after midnight usually. I also stay pretty busy since I am the "summer mom". My job is to take care of all of the reps and techs --so basically I am a mother to 20 children. If we keep doing this every summer I probably won't have any children of my own because I can barely handle these 20 "grown" children. It's fun though--We love them and I know they appreciate all that we do for them. The past month has been awesome- We've already had family come and visit us (Austin's mom & sister and his aunt and cousin), we've had numerous office dinners and parties, eaten at some fun restaurants, gone to a couple broadway plays, and a bunch of other stuff in the city--and don't forget the shopping--I have loved the shopping out here!
This post will be a recap of our highlights so far in the Big Apple: (Reader beware- this is a long post!)

"Kick Off Party"

We threw a big party for the techs and reps the night before the first day of work-- with lots of food--and LOTS of dancing. Austin, Sierra and I taught the office the "Solja Boy" dance and then had EVERYONE that was there (except a few who were taking pictures) do the dance (It was hilarous- I will post some pictures when I get them from their cameras). It was fun for everyone to get to know their "summer family" a little bit better (and on a different level)

"Cinco De Mayo Party"

We had a mexican themed party complete with home made burritos (We made everything from scratch- black beans, guacamole, pulled pork and rice...oh and I can't forget the delicious "tres leches cake" we made), mexican drinks, and a pinata. Needless to say the food took Sierra and I about 6 hours to make--but it was worth it when the guys came to the party giddy like little kids on Christmas morning. The pinata hitting was hilarious--Austin had this brilliant idea to put the pinata on a broom handle to make it harder to hit and you could only use your shoe to hit it with--and boy did it make for a lot of laughs.

Austin tripped on a loose shoe, hit himself in the head with the broom and then went down with a crash. The blindfolded Dan thought he hit the pinata so hard it took Austin down...little did he know he didn't even hit the pinata!!! =)

Midnight Dinner:

The office stayed out working until 11:30 PM to reach a sales goal--so we made them a midnight dinner. We made spaghetti, bread, salad, and fruit soup (fruit soup is amazing--a mixture of fruit, orange juice, and tapioca). A few of the reps decided to go to bed instead of come to dinner (I guess they didn't feel like consuming all those carbs at midnight...) The way I see it is that no one should have to work a 12 hour day and not come home to a warm meal!

Hard Rock Cafe:

Angelo's Pizzaria (featured on David Letterman a lot).

Olive Garden in Times Square:

Chili's--to watch the Jazz, game 6:

Pinkberry (If you have ever been to Spoon Me or Red Mango this is the original one--and I could eat it everyday!):

Serendipity 3 (My favorite NYC restaurant):

Ellen's Stardust Diner- the servers are aspiring actors and actresses (most of them perform in all of the broadway plays) and they sing and dance while they serve you. It is totally something you would see in a movie...and it's totally cool.

Dylan's Candy Bar--I was in heaven...candy heaven. But the prices are outrageous!

Five Guys--It's the east coast version of In-n-out. But I have to admit, it is so much better! I have never had a better burger (although I don't eat meat now...)...and the cajun fries (with a little bit of malt vinegar) are incredibly delicious. The only thing it's missing are the yummy shakes.

Broadway Plays:
So far I've seen Mary Poppins (which is new to Broadway and out of all of the Broadway plays I have seen over the years it is definitely one of my favorites) and Phantom of the Opera (I have seen this before but it is a classic so I could see it over and over again. The visual effects are phenomenal). I had awesome seats in both shows and I totally think it is worth it to pay the extra money to have a good seat--it makes the show that much better! I have a list of about 10 other Broadway plays I want to see so I think I will be seeing one just about every week. Most of them I think I will be seeing by myself (the downside of having a husband that works 12 hour days 6 days a week) but it will still be amazing!

Central Park: We go to central park every sunday after church and walk around, lounge, have picnics, and do stunts. Stunts you ask? Well this is what happens when you have a husband who is a gymnast and loves to do flips and tricks and teach people tricks and flips. The guys he has been working with have gotten pretty good. Its fun to watch and so far we haven't had any serious injuries. I got some picture this last sunday so you can see what I am talking about...

The MET: One of my favorite things out here is the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I love art and anything art related. This museum is so big it could take a week to see everything--I like to go for a few hours at a time and absorb everything in that section and then come back and view another section. This summer they have a Superhero fashion exhibit. Don't ask me how they combined those two, but they did and it's pretty dang cool. The people that know me really well know that I have a Superman fetish--(and now my last name "Overman" which is said "Uber Mench" in German means Superman....How cool is that?) so this exhibit was awesome for me because I got to see an original Superman painting by Andy Warhol, and the original Superman suit worn by Christopher Reeves in the Superman movies. We also saw the Iron Man suit, the Batman suit from the new Batman movie The Dark Knight, the Spiderman suits, the cat women suits and others. I wish I could have gotten pictures but photography is not allowed in the special exhibits. boo.

Church Pictures: Our church is in Manhattan but not the one that Austin and I met at. There is construction on the one we met at so unfortunately we don't get to attend church there right now--but maybe we will get to before the end of the summer. We are going to start going to the early morning sessions at the temple in manhattan on Thursdays (the temple is right above the church where Austin and I met. The church is on the first-3rd floor and the temple is above it on the other floors). We also went to a branch in New Jersey one day since we were in the area and that was kind of a cool experience. The chapel was an old house turned in to a church and there were maybe 30 people in the branch. As soon as we walked in someone asked us if we could play the piano--I guess they don't have a piano player currently. Unfortunately neither one of us do so we couldn't help.

Random NYC pictures:

These people are stuck in the 80's...the pick in the fro is my favorite...

I didn't know that Austin was in an advertisement... (see his twin on the sign in the back? ha ha)

"Subway surfing"-- This game involves standing (in a surfer pose, or with your feet together) without holding while the subway is moving. The key is not to fall on other people--sometimes, especially during stops you do fall on other people--and they aren't very pleasant about it. But it's funny and its a challenge.

This is how we reserve parking spots in NYC:

Looks like so much fun!!!! I am coming to visit you for sure! I Love Serendipity! And just so you know they just opened a 5 Guys in Ft. Union so you can have it even after the summer! I had no idea what it was, but I guess I will have to try it! : ) I haven't tried Green Works, but I see it at Whole Foods all the time. I am addicted to Mrs. Meyers Green Day stuff - I could sniff Lavender and the "baby" flavors all day!!! I have noticed that the dishwasher detergent doesn't work as well as the rest of the stuff though so maybe will try the Green Works kind. Have you used the dishwasher stuff? Also, that is crazy that Austin can hold you over his head like that!!!
