For the beauty of the earth...

Wow, I forgot how pretty Utah is. Since I've been back I have been in awe at how beautiful the mountains are- especially when the sun rises over them. I've noticed that lately while driving I haven't been watching the road but have been gazing at the mountains instead!
Austin and I finally had our "outdoorsy" date we've been waiting all summer for! Too bad summer was over before we got to do it. We went camping in the Uinta mountains with 2 of our married friends. You won't see any pictures of them because both wives said that no pictures were allowed during camping/hiking activities. I guess I figure that looking ugly is just part of the whole experience.
Some highlights:
.hobo (tinfoil) dinners--can't go wrong with salmon, veggies, and red potatoes with a hint of charcoal.
.roasted marshmellows. I can only eat one smore before I get sick because I don't like chocolate but I can pretty much eat an entire bag of roasted marshmellows by myself.
.campfire popcorn. We actually got it to pop this time. Well actually our friend Joe got it to pop & I can't actually say I was a part of it because I was skeptic the entire time.
.our night-time visitors. One word, "scary". Leaving out food really does attract animals--and when they say bears can smell marshmellows they mean it. Our marshmellows/grams/chocolate was all gone in the morning. The first visitor was most likely a bear or a moose/elk. Loud, broken branches, entire bags/boxes of food gone--Austin grabbed the flash light and tried to catch it in the act but failed. The second visitor was much more proper--it actually tore open the wrappers and ate what was inside, leaving the wrappers behind. Our friend tried to catch this little one in the act but he missed it too. We did find some footprints in the morning however.
.Sleeping on a twin blowup mattress in a 2 man tent. Hey, I slept well. But Austin thinks we need a tent that can fit a queen sized mattress (who wants to sleep on the ground anyway?).
.I didn't get cold at night. The long sleeved shirt, jacket, coat, 2 pants, socks and 2 sleeping bags really did the trick.  WOOHOO! My ears did get a little cold so looks like next camping trip I will be wearing a beanie also.
. Our hike. It was supposed to a short, easy hike to a lake. But after about a 2 mile detour it turned into about a 10 mile hike.  We never saw the lake but we still had fun.

On our way to the Uinta's. Austin grew out his facial hair to have a more authentic experience.

He should win a medal for how quickly he can set up a tent.

Yummy tinfoil dinner.

Proof that the campfire popcorn really did pop!

Layla heart Austin. We went to take a picture by this tree and then notice there was a heart carved into it.

Our hike was gorgeous and it was wonderful to experience mother nature again after months of life in the big city.

I was wondering if you guys had made it back because there hadn't been a post for a while ;) Glad you made it back safely and have already been a trip - wow! Looks like you guys had a good time - how could you not when smore's are involved?! It is the only way I will eat a marshmellow...well that and in Rice Krispie treats. Now I am hungry - dang!

Hi Layla, I don't know if you remember hanging out with me, but this is Annie's friend, Britany, from SV. I hope you don't mind me leaving a comment, I just wanted to tell you that you look like a supermodel and it looks like you are having a great life! I love how beautiful Utah is too!
